π Ready or Not, Here I Go
Have you ever caught yourself saying, "I'm not ready yet"? π€
Maybe you have been thinking about taking a class, exercising, learning a new skill, writing a book, or reconnecting with an old friend, but somehow today never seems to be the right day.
We often believe that motivation will magically appear before we begin, but life usually works in reverse.
Action creates motivation far more often than motivation creates action. (Learn more click Motivate Your Motivation)
π¦ Waiting for Green Lights That Never Come
Many of us wait for the perfect moment, the perfect plan, or the perfect version of ourselves before taking the first step. Unfortunately, perfection is like chasing the horizon; no matter how far you walk, it keeps moving. π If we wait until everything feels comfortable, we may spend days, weeks, months and even years standing in the same place.
Progress rarely begins with certainty; it usually begins with curiosity and a willingness to move. (Learn more click Study U)
But don't underestimate the power of curiosity and a willingness to try. Sometimes, those are the only things you need to get started.
𧱠The Barriers We Build
Sometimes the biggest obstacles are not outside of us, they are the ones we quietly build for ourselves. ποΈ
We tell ourselves:
"I need more time."
"I should know more first."
"I'm too old."
"I'm too busy."
"What if I fail?"
These thoughts can feel like protective walls, but they often become invisible prisons.
Fear and worry often disguise themselves as preparation, convincing us that one more day, one more book, or one more plan is all we need before we begin.
Feelings of emptiness can make it even harder to recognize that your inaction may be preventing you from doing something you know could bring you joy. (Learn more click Depression: βItβs Hardβ)
Don't let your degree of readiness become the excuse that keeps you from doing something you say you want to enjoy or achieve.
π± Readiness Is Something You Grow
"If you don't feel ready, your start is getting ready."
Here's a thought that changed the way I approach new challenges:
Being ready does not determine when you should start.
Readiness is often the result of starting, not the requirement for it.
We were never ready to crawl, walk, or talk. Children don't wait until they're ready; they become ready by trying..
As adults, we learn the same way. We leave our comfort zones and take action to do something that feels difficult. We struggle with it, and we learn.
Whenever I hear myself say, "I'm not ready," I now ask a different question: "What is one small thing I can do today that helps me get ready?"
That simple shift turns hesitation into progress.
πͺ If You Can't Start, Start Getting Ready
Sometimes your first step isn't the goal itself, it's preparing for the goal. That's perfectly okay. π
If you want to...
π Join a dance class, watch a beginner's lesson online.
π§π»ββοΈ Practice yoga, go to the library and borrow some yoga books.
πΈ Learn guitar, borrow one or visit a music store.
π Start running, take a 10-minute walk today.
π¨ Learn to paint, buy a sketchbook and one pencil.
π€ Make new friends, introduce yourself to one new person.
β€οΈ Reconnect with family or old friends, send a simple text saying, "I've been thinking about you."
Your "getting ready" is your start.
π Learn Your Way Forward
No one begins as an expert. Every athlete, artist, musician, entrepreneur, and teacher started knowing far less than they know today. π§ If you don't know what to do next, learn enough to take one step.
You might:
π Read a book.
π₯ Watch a reliable video.
π₯ Talk with someone who has already done it.
π§ Listen to a podcast.
π Write down one tiny action you can complete today.
Knowledge grows confidence, but confidence grows even faster through experience.
πͺ Be Honest With Yourself
There is another question worth asking.
If you never take the first step, is it because you are truly unpreparedβor because you don't really want to? π
That is not meant to discourage you; it is meant to free you.
Sometimes we discover that a dream belongs to someone else, and that's okay. But if the desire still lights a spark inside you every time you think about it, perhaps what you need isn't more waiting; it is one courageous step forward.
πΆ Small Steps Change Big Lives
We often underestimate what small actions can accomplish.
πΆ One walk becomes a habit.
π One page becomes a chapter.
ποΈββοΈ One workout becomes a healthier lifestyle.
π One conversation becomes a lifelong friendship.
Momentum is like pushing a heavy flywheel. At first it barely moves, but each turn makes the next one a little easier until it begins spinning on its own.
Research in psychology consistently shows that breaking goals into small, achievable actions increases the likelihood of success because each completed step builds confidence and reinforces positive habits. Small wins are not insignificantβthey are the building blocks of lasting change.
π Ready or Not...Start Anyway
Maybe today isn't the day you finish. Maybe today isn't even the day you fully begin.
But today can be the day you decide to move toward the life you've been imagining. π
You don't have to leap across the finish lineβyou only need to take the next step. Every meaningful journey begins with movement, not mastery.
So if you don't feel ready, then let your first step be getting ready. And if you're already getting ready, congratulations...you're no longer standing still.
You don't become ready by waiting. You become ready by beginning.
The future you are hoping for is waiting for the person willing to begin today. β€οΈ
